Abstract

Abstract: We live in a constantly changing world, a multi-faceted world vacillating between joy and happiness on one side and sadness and desolation on the other. We have indeed witnessed, recently, much sadness and misfortune resulting from both human and natural disasters. Whether individual or collective, the risks are assessed having regard to our cultural determinism, taking into account values, standards and living conditions of individuals. Our purpose, which falls within the framework of the theory of social representations (Moscovici (1986)), would be to account for the impact of the disaster on the behavior of the individual and of society, by asking ourselves the following questions: How do we perceive the disaster? What behavior do we adopt in the face of a disaster? and how does culture lead to resilience?

Résumé: Nous vivons dans un monde en perpétuel changement, un monde à multiples facettes vacillant entre joie et bonheur d’un côté et tristesse et désolation de l’autre. Nous sommes en effet témoins, ces derniers temps, de beaucoup de tristesse et malheur issus de catastrophes à la fois humaine et naturelle. Qu’ils soient individuels ou collectifs, les risques sont évalués eu égard à nos déterminismes culturels, tenant compte des valeurs, des normes et des conditions de vie des individus. Notre propos, qui s’inscrit dans le cadre de la théorie des représentations sociales telle qu’elle est préconisée par (Moscovici (1986)), serait de rendre compte de l’impact de la catastrophe sur le comportement de l’individu et de la société, en nous posant les questions suivantes: Comment perçoit-on la catastrophe? Quel comportement adopte-t-on face à la catastrophe? et comment la culture mène-t-elle vers la résilience?
