SPECIAL ISSUE

COVID-19

Professor Saroj Jayasinghe - MBBS, MD (Colombo), MD (Bristol), MRCP (UK), FRCP (London), FCCP, PhD (Colombo), FNASSL. Consultant to the Faculty of Medicine, Sabragamuwa University of Sri Lanka and Consultant Physician

It is my pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the Special Issue of BAU Journal Health and Wellbeing dedicated to COVID-19.

I am honored to be the Guest Editor of an Issue that is timely and captures the multitude of issues faced by Lebanon during the COVID-19 pandemic. This is an unprecedented situation facing the humanity and in order to meet these challenges, it is essential that we all pool our knowledge and respond using a whole-of-society approach or a global approach.

The Special Issue has nine papers on key areas that are relevant to control the pandemic: Knowledge and perceptions of healthcare workers regarding COVID-19, impact of the pandemic on medical education, safety of daycare for children during the pandemic, utility of hand sanitizers as a preventive method, food safety during the pandemic and the issue of criminal liability of those responsible for spreading the infection.

The BAU Journal Health and Wellbeing has taken this important step to collate these advances in knowledge emerging from Lebanon, and to share it with the global community of academics, health professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders. The global scientific community needs to learn from such diverse experiences, and I am confident that the papers will stimulate discussion, debate and lead to further research. Sharing and learning from each other is perhaps the only way out for humanity to mount effective responses to COVID -19 as well as other future global threats.

My sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Journal and the researchers.
