Volume 3, Issue 2 (2021)

Dr. Maria Stathopoulou

It is a great pleasure for me to be the guest editor for this volume of BAU Journal - Health and Well-Being and to access the high quality manuscripts that are being published this month. My research has been largely focused on the vascular endothelial growth factor and its involvement in personalized medicine. It is thus with great interest that we welcome in this issue of BAU Journal studies on kinase inhibitors involved in VEGF-related pathways and cancer.

During these hard times of the COVID-19 pandemic, the health systems are facing an enormous challenge and the health professionals are in the front line of this fight. Health and mental consequences are expected for nurses and medical doctors as well as medical students. This crisis has increased the interest of researchers towards the health and wellbeing of health care providers. A large part of this volume of BAU Journal is dedicated to health care systems including studies that are either focused on health issues of health care professionals and also on the relationships and possible conflicts that may arise in clinical practice and education.

Furthermore, this issue has an interest in the health of adolescents of Lebanon aiming to highlight domains for amelioration of disease prevention and health education in a critical period of life. Another challenge that Lebanon is facing is the large number of refugees that has received the recent years and concerns about their health and well-being are being raised, while studies are needed to better understand the needs of this population. This should be a priority for all developed countries that are sharing the responsibilities of increased number of refugees.
